Why a new church?

A famous theologian once said that 'the Church exists by mission as a fire exists by burning'.  Faithfulness to Jesus Christ means helping others to know him, and as more people come to Christ, more local churches are created.  Until 1350ad the nearest church to Greenbank was St Mary's Great Budworth - six miles away.  Until 1824 it was St Helen's Witton, and until 2002 it was St John's Hartford.  From autumn 2002 it has been Christ Church Greenbank!

But why in a railway station?

We serve the Greenbank, Pippins, Heysoms Avenue and Chester Road areas of Northwich - and Greenbank Station is right in the middle of that area.  The building became available because trains began selling tickets on board rather than from ticket offices.  It has been attractively modernised and offers excellent facilities for church and community use.

What kind of church are we?

We are an Anglican evangelical church.  Christ Church is the daughter church of St John the Baptist, Hartford.  Together these two churches serve the Parish of Hartford and Greenbank, part of the Rural Deanery of Middlewich, within the Diocese of Chester in the Church of England (a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion).

Our conviction is that when God’s word – the Bible – is faithfully taught, God’s voice is clearly heard. We would be delighted to help you hear God’s word about his Son, Jesus Christ. We aim to let God’s love for us and Christ’s authority over us govern all we do as a church.
