Prayer Letter

  September / October 2006

“Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who makes the storm clouds. He gives showers of rain to men, and plants of the field to everyone.” (Zechariah 10:1)

Mindful of our approaching harvest festival, this verse from Zechariah 10 is a timely reminder that it is the Lord who meets all our needs on a daily basis and that it is to the Lord that our requests ought to be made. So the forthcoming harvest season is an ideal time to both celebrate and give thanks to the Lord for all his generous blessings and also to raise up our needs before Him afresh.

In the last prayer letter I drew your attention to problems we were having with a fresh spate of vandalism at the church. Since that prayer letter went out in July I have to tell you that we have been blessed with a trouble free few months! Considering the increased opportunity for vandalism in the longer evenings in July and August, this has to be a cause for rejoicing and thanksgiving!

I would also like to mention the Holiday Club at St John’s at the end of August for special thanksgiving. Several of our young people from Christ Church attended during the week and by all accounts both enjoyed and gained tremendously from the experience. Please give thanks to God for all those leaders and young people who worked so hard to make the Holiday Club an enjoyable and edifying experience for all who came.

Finally, we were delighted as a congregation to learn at the end of August that Glyn Lucas has been accepted to train for ordination. Glyn attended a selection conference earlier in the summer and after a rigorous selection procedure, received a very warm commendation from the bishop’s advisors. That Glyn should have been selected for training will come as little surprise to those who have benefited from his ministry both here and at St John’s, though it is true to say that the Church of England’s gain will be our loss! Please pray for Glyn, Anne and the family as their plans for moving take shape in the next 12 months.

Looking forward into the coming months, I would ask for your prayers for the resumption of our Sunday school and youth groups. Please pray for the leaders as they prepare their teaching programme and for the young people as they return to the groups. The Growth Groups will begin again on the 27th September. Please pray for the group leaders, Dave and Jean Jones and Danny and Janet Greaves and for the group members as those meetings re-commence. It is our desire that through this ministry God will strengthen our congregation by deepening our love for Him and for one another, and by leading us to growing maturity in our Christian faith, witness and ministries.

Thank you again for your invaluable prayer and support.

                                                                David
